JENNIFER A. JOY-GABA

I believe that learning is a collaborative effort between the student and instructor. Likewise, I believe that teaching is much more than simply delivering knowledge. My goal is to provide students with the tools necessary to become critical thinkers, allowing them to succeed in the classroom and beyond. To this end, I endeavor to be warm and approachable in my teaching style, while striving to set high standards for my students.

1

Use flashcards. Write the term on one side of the card and the definition on the other. To be effective, rephrase the definition in your own words. If you are unable to do this, you do not understand the term and will need to review your notes. Studies show that generating you own examples work best for retention!

2

Study aloud. Many students review material silently. By reviewing material aloud you can quickly see how well you know the material. If you have trouble articulating yourself, you'll want to go back and review the material.

3

Practice. In addition to flashcards, test yourself with example questions. You can do this by using the in-class exercises or by making up your own practice questions.

HOW TO STUDY MORE EFFECTIVELY
TIPS FOR SUCCESS

If you are still having trouble or not doing as well as you'd like, visit your professor during office hours or email a question you may have.

4

Study over time. Research has shown that students perform better when they study a little bit over time compared to cramming the night before.

5

Get some sleep. If you are able to get a full nights rest, research shows that you will be better able to remember the information for later.
